Screenshot: What E17 looks likeE17 or Enlightenment DR17 is a window manager which can also be used as a desktop environment. It includes many programs such as the desktop, panel, file manager, login manager and other programs. You can still use other programs if you don't like the ones included in E17. For example if you don't like the file manager you can use a different one from the application recommendations page. E17 is seen as a very beautiful window manager because it has nice features such as animated wallpapers, themes and login manager themes. And it can do this very fast, but not as fast as a pure window manager such as a *box or tiling window manager.
Installing E17
Enlightenment DR17 is available in the community repository. If it isn't enabled, just uncomment the following lines in your /etc/pacman.conf.
[community] ... Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
Then update pacman's database by running pacman -Sy Now we can get on to installing it. For the base E17 run pacman -S e17-cvs For extra programs such as a screenshot module, entrance (login manager) and image viewer run pacman -S e17-extra-cvs A few more E17 programs are available in the AUR. See here on how to install them.
Setting up E17
If you haven't installed entrance (the login manager) you don't need to add "entranced" to the /etc/rc.conf file. There are two ways to set up entrance. The first way (faster) is to first open your /etc/rc.conf file as root and add the following:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng @alsa @cups hal entranced)
Now when you restart your computer you will see entrance. Login and you can use E17
